Weekly Photo Challenge: Masterpiece

She drew her first masterpiece in the second grade.

She loved art class and could not wait to show me her latest crayon drawings or watercolor paintings, asking “do you know what it is?”.  I hated when she asked me that, knowing she would be crushed if I did not ‘get it’.

One day after school, she pulled a rolled up piece of paper from her backpack, saying “Mom! Guess what this is?” as she unrolled her artwork of the day.

I was completely unprepared for what I saw. I had been expecting “the usual” second-grader art that was displayed on our fridge, the walls in her room and my office. This wasn’t it. This drawing told a story, it had motion and beauty. And best of all, it was totally obvious what the drawing was of.

“It’s Swan Lake!,” we both screamed with delight.

Then, of course, we had to do ballet moves, while giggling like little girls.
